About
Margaret Reiswig is a highly experienced seamstress who has had a passion for the art since age 8 when she started designing doll pillows using hand-picked cotton as batting. She went on to garment construction, draperies, home accents, and designing a variety of decorative bags and purses, gaining knowledge of the complexity of the textile industry. Always into design with geometrical interests, she quickly developed a passion for the art of quilting.
Margaret holds a BS from Colorado State University. Her major emphasis of study was Consumer Science in Textiles. This curriculum focused on understanding the chemistry of the materials that are used in a variety of textiles, the history of textiles and weave structure, as well as the industry at large. Additionally, business and marketing in relationship to this specialty area were included as direct objectives to this degree. Recently, she received advanced education in threading materials that has been highly important when matching various fabrics with the quilt design.
An experienced quilter who also enjoys designing her own patterns, Margaret founded “Three Bears Quilting” in 2007 perfecting her talent as a long arm quilt specialist. Projecting her talent into leading edge technology, she and her husband Johnny were selected to join the beta test team for Statler Stitcher “Creative Studio” software. Mastering “Creative Studio” and combining it with freehand techniques provides endless creative quilting possibilities. She especially enjoys discussing design ideas, if desired, with her customers to assure the finished quilt matches their intention. Additionally, having respected and appreciated traditional vintage quilts, Margaret has experience and a high interest in working with delicate antique fabrics, especially finishing the quilting from heirloom quilt tops that were “labors of love” from past generations. She has worked with both hand- and machine-pieced items, and has the background in how to handle various aged textiles due to their delicate nature.
Margaret currently lives in downtown Chapel Hill, North Carolina. When she is not busy in the quilt studio, you can find her at Franklin Street Yoga or enjoying the countryside on her bike.
